Recent Projects

Below are brief summaries of recently completed projects.

Chemical Manufacturer - Tank Farm Control

PLC - Modicon Quantum 434 (programmed using Modicon Concept).

SCADA - Total Control Products Process Window.

Collection of vapor concentration data via Modbus.
Collection and Distribution of tank farm data via Modbus Plus.
Startup, shutdown, and isolation of individual tank farm vessels.
Monitoring of tank parameters, providing alerts and alarms for abnormal tank farm conditions.
Collection of historical data for all critical operator actions and process events.
Display of the data in Historical Trend charts.
Control of feed pumps and valves leading to and from the tank farm area.

Paper Products Manufacturer - Product Packaging

PLC - Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000.

HMI - Allen Bradley PanelView.

Control of variable speed drives (AB1336 Plus) using AB’s ControlNet network (no control wiring).
Sequential control of variable speed product conveyors with appropriate upstream and downstream equipment interlocking.
Operation of all conveyors at a sufficient rate to insure on time delivery of product to each production line machine. This included avoiding excessive speed in order to minimize product damage.
Operator controls for individual conveyor sections for use during maintenance.

Paper Products Manufacturer - Distribution Warehouse Finished Product (Case) Conveying

PLC - Modicon 984-785E Redundant Processors (programmed using ProWORX NxT).

HMI - Modicon Panelmate.

Control of Hytrol case sortation conveyor.
Use of UPC barcode information from Accusort barcode readers for sortation decisions.
Interface of sortation information from Modicon 984-785E PLC to a Modicon 984B PLC (main controller) via MB+.
Alternate routing controls for contingency operation under adverse or failed equipment conditions.

Paper Products Manufacturer -  Napkin Manufacturing

PLC - Modicon 984B (programmed using ProWORX Plus).

HMI - None (Conventional Panel Controls).

Integrate a Napkin manufacturing line comprised of machinery from multiple vendors: Napkin folder, wrapper, packer, case lift, and case sealer.
Provide intercommunication among several Modicon PLCs via MB+
Provide electrical design engineering, CAD drawings, and electrical installation supervision.

Electric Power Transmission and Distribution Utility Company

PLC - Modicon Quantum 434, Compact 285 (programmed using Modicon Concept)

PLC - Modicon Quantum 434, Compact 255 (programmed using ProWORX Plus)

SCADA - ABB Pricom (by ABB)

Automation of substation operations using a "master" PLC program whose logic is virtually identical at all installed locations.  Each substation's "personality" was implemented via configuration settings.   Those settings enabled only those portions of logic for required for the collection of equipment and operating modes at the station.
Communication with up to 64 DPU/TPU protective relays via MB+.
This logic is presently installed and operating in over 150 substations for the customer's utility company. Eventually, it will be installed in about 400 substations.

Chemical Manufacturer - Automatic Batching System

PLC - Modicon Quantum 434 (programmed using ProWORX Plus and Pro Works NxT)

SCADA - Modicon Process Window

This system fully automated ingredient charging operations from multiple charging systems into multiple reactors.

This project was started in 1996, when the system consisted of conventional panel instrumentation and hardwired controls.  All functions were manually performed by operators. Sequel Inc. working hand-in-hand with customer engineers to convert this manual system to an automated system without significant production loss.   Production interruptions were minimized by utilizing scheduled shutdowns and other appropriated timed opportunities.

The present Process Window / Quantum PLC system now operates numerous batch recipes, 23 reactors with analog monitoring and PID instrumentation, 6 charging systems, and approximately 200 valves and pumps to perform its automation tasks.   Sequel Inc. also supplies ongoing support when upgrades or expansions are needed.
